The LaRue County Middle School Academic Team won first place overall with 58 total points at District Governor's Cup Academic Competition Jan. 22 at Boston School.

The Future Problem Solving Team tied for first place. Members are Cody McDowell, Kylie Rogers, Caitlin Lewis and Shayne Wathen.

The Quick Recall team placed second. Lauren Zahrndt and Allison Firquin operated the computerized buzzer system for the competition. Both of these teams progressed to Regional competition at Bloomfield Middle School Feb. 1 and will compete again Feb. 5.

The LaRue County High School Academic Team competed in the 18th District Governor's Cup competition held Jan. 24 and 29 at Nelson County High School.  LCHS competed against four other high school academic teams – Nelson County High, Bardstown High, Bardstown Bethlehem and Bluegrass Christian Academy.

The following students placed in written assessment and will advance to regional competition: Shelby Rogers placed third in Language Arts, Andrew Skaggs placed second in Mathematics, Spenser Reed placed second in Social Studies. 

Two LaRue County students have been named to the honor roll for the first semester of the 2010-11 academic year at Bethlehem High School in Bardstown.
Skyler Kaitlyn Frye, a sophomore, was named to the All A Honor Roll.
Jesse E. Plouvier, a freshman, was named to the A-B Honor Roll.

Teachers at LaRue County High School are implementing a fresh approach to instruction, Project Based Learning, which they hope will help students to solve problems much as they’ll have to do once they graduate and face the real world.
“Students will be in charge of their own learning, helping to develop the objectives, the process, and to some extent how they are assessed,” said Ruth Sorace, curriculum specialist.
