• Mabe nominated to perform in Europe

    A local student musician has been nominated to perform on a 16 day tour in seven European countries.

    Gavin Mabe of Sonora is one of around 200 student musicians who were invited to perform on the tour. Mabe is a member of the Central Hardin High School music program that is directed by David Centers and he is the grandson of Joey and Opal Mabe .

  • Herrin honored at National Leadership Conference

    Kaelyn Herrin of Hodgenville and several other members of Eastern Kentucky University’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter captured many honors at the organization’s National Leadership Conference, held June 24-27 in Atlanta, Georgia.

    Herrin received first place in marketing concepts and sixth place in information management.

    The conference drew thousands of future business leaders to compete in leadership events, share successes, and learn new ideas about shaping their careers through workshops and exhibits.

    The 29 students enrolled in Kids Crew are experiencing summer activities ranging from dinosaurs to karate.

    “We try to make everything we do have an educational benefit for our kids,” said Janet Campbell, in her second year as director of the daycare located at the LaRue County Board of Education in Hodgenville.

    With lead teachers Jane Kelly(preschool age), Karyn Arnold(younger school age), and Delia Locke(older school age) assisting her with the children ages 3-12, Campbell has organized a summer full of learning activities and experiences.

    CKCA to Offer Educational Awards

    Central Kentucky Community Action will again offer educational awards for graduating high school seniors and GED recipients in LaRue County. The awards will be given in the form of scholarships to assist with tuition while attending a four year college, a two year college or a technical school. Certain guidelines must be met, and scholarship packets are available at the high school, and the local Community Action office. For more information call 270-358-3937.
