Nicholas Vazquez, a fifth-grade student at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, was the LaRue County winner of an essay contest sponsored by the Elizabethtown-Hardin-LaRue Retired Teachers Association.
The topic was: “Why My Grandparent Should be the AARP/KRTA Grandparent of the Year.” Nicholas read his winning essay at the March 15 meeting of EHLRTA.
He wrote about his grandmother Wanda Howard.
He received a medal and gift certificate to Barnes & Noble and became eligible to participate in the state finals.
