• 2017 LaRue ExCEL award participants nominated

    Each of LaRue County’s public schools has selected its recipient for the 2017 ExCEL Teacher of the Year Award.

    Those named and their schools include Penny Akers, Abraham Lincoln Elementary; Laura Evans, Hodgenville Elementary; Bryan Hurst, LaRue County Middle; and Houston Cruse, LaRue County High.

    Preschool children ages 2-4 and their parents are invited to Wee Time, where preschool children can become familiar with the school they will attend. The event is October 12 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. The color for the event is orange.     Futurist Buckminster Fuller in his 1982 book Critical Path is said to have written that if all the knowledge that mankind had accumulated and transmitted by the year One A.D. were equal to one unit of information, it took about 1500 years or until the sixteenth century for that amount of knowledge to double.

    The next doubling took only 250 years, until about 1750, and by 1900, knowledge had multiplied by 8 units. Today, futurists like Fuller estimate the doubling speed is now between one and two years.

  • LaRue Co. students participate in Fourth District Chorus

    Twenty-five students from LaRue County Middle School, Hodgenville Elementary School and Abraham, Elementary School participated in the 2016 Kentucky Music Educators’ Fourth District Treble Chorus this past Saturday.

    The annual event combined the talent of selected area youth with their music teachers and culminated with the group joining a two hundred member choir at First Christian Church in Elizabethtown.

  • School board passes working budget

    The LaRue County School Board passed their 2016-2017 working budget at their monthly meeting on Monday night.

    The total budget is $35,186,738.49, which is the same amount for both the revenue and expenditures. The budget shows a balance of $25,174,014.09 in the general fund with a contingency of $1,976,949.60. Other budgeted funds are $3,805,000 for construction, $2,236,971 for food service and $874,594.57 for building fund.

  • LCS announces 2016 Distinguished Alumni

    Three graduates to

    be honored Sept. 29

    The LaRue County Board of Education is pleased to announce the 2016 LaRue County Schools Distinguished Alumni. Dr. Joshua D. Detre, Walter E. Owens III and Paul Hornback will be recognized at noon on Thursday, September 29 at an awards luncheon in their honor at the LaRue County Extension Office.
