  • Retiring educator relates to students firsthand

    One reason retiring adult education teacher Melcenia Sprowls-Shelton has related so well to her students is because she has been where they are.

    “I quit school when I was a junior at LaRue County High School,” said Sprowls-Shelton, whose last day to work is June 30.

  • Scholarship calendar - June 15, 2016

    CKCA to Offer Educational Awards

    Central Kentucky Community Action will again offer educational awards for graduating high school seniors and GED recipients in LaRue County. The awards will be given in the form of scholarships to assist with tuition while attending a four year college, a two year college or a technical school. Certain guidelines must be met, and scholarship packets are available at the high school, and the local Community Action office. For more information call 270-358-3937.

  • Ray Graham Memorial Scholarship

    Dian Graham, daughter of Ray Graham, presented four $1,000 scholarships in her dad’s name May 24 at the LaRue County High School Senior Awards Program. Ray Graham was an agriculture and biology teacher and FFA sponsor. He was a WKU and UK graduate, church deacon, WWII Army veteran, farmer, a good friend and dad to his two daughters. His motto was “Do things right or just don’t do them”, and believed education was something no one could ever take away from you.

  • Newfound success

    Mariah Steele and Christina Perkins share a lot in common.

    Both women dropped out of school in their mid-teens; both decided to acquire their GED’s through LaRue County Schools’ Adult Education program; and, having earned those certificates, both are determined to continue their education to become certified nursing assistants.
