 Kentucky’s 2013 National Forensic League Coach of the Year Katy Cecil realizes her greatest fulfillment as coach whenever she guides one of her LaRue County High School students to reaching higher goals.

“When the first student I had worked with won his first award, I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment I never felt getting my own trophies,” said Cecil, who teaches English and coaches speech and drama.

 Students from both LaRue County elementary schools displayed their technological achievement during the eighth annual Student Technology Leadership Program State Championship held March 28 at the Lexington Convention Center and Rupp Arena.

The competition provided a venue that combined technology, problem-solving and innovation. Student projects demonstrated how STLP members are making an impact on student learning and their communities.

 The 4-H Reality Store was held March 28 for 8th-graders at LaRue County Middle School. Students learned about budgeting as they paid monthly bills. Pictured are students at the transportation booth. They had several choices available ranging from a new Corvette to an older model Mazda. Several volunteers from the community participated.

Invent Now, Inc., a non-profit organization will bring its nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention summer program to Hodgenville this summer. Camp Invention is a weeklong summer day program for children entering grades one through six, created in partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The program engages children to discover their own innate creativity and inventiveness through hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math content.
