  • Career Cafe serves up options

Career Cafe is a new program at LaRue County Middle School that allows students to gain awareness of what careers exist within the local (and broader) community, and to learn what education and requirements are necessary for various fields in which they are interested.

Kellie Sandidge, LCMS counselor, heard about this program while attending a conference.

“Other schools were seeing success with this type of setup and program and it sounded like an exciting opportunity for LCMS students,” she said.

  • SPACE PLACE: Tiny grains of dust from way-way-outer space

Everything around us came from an ancient swirling disk of dusk. Our sun, our planet, and the planets of our solar system all formed from the remnants of this disk. Our mountains, our animals, and even us humans came from the sun that formed from this disk. Nobody on Earth has ever handled anything that came from anywhere else.

Hodgenville Elementary kindergarten students in Tracy Tharp’s class celebrated Color Days. Students read a color book, learned a color song, made a color puppet and did a writing activity for each color. Above, Lily Edlin and Carlos Coffman showed off their black hats for Black Show and Tell.

  • LCHS juniors set new record in ACT scores

ACT results from last year’s LaRue County High School’s junior class revealed the highest composite scores since all juniors statewide were required to be tested as part of state accountability, according to the district’s assistant superintendent Amanda Reed.

  • LCHS Band aims to top last season

Last marching season, the LaRue County High School Band of Hawks took judges “Beyond the Sunset,” This year, the band is continuing its journey beyond with “Awakening Angels.”

“Basically it’s about the transformation of angels in terms of kind of coming to life,” Director Jaime Smith said. “They start as metallic beings and they come alive throughout the show. There is a progression of earth to heaven going on.”
