  • Schroll graduation

    Austin Schroll has completed his Masters in Business Administration from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University on July 23, 2016.

    Schroll is a 2004 graduate of LaRue County High School and 2009 graduate of Western Kentucky University and University of Kentucky in Mechanical Engineering.

    He is the son of Paula and Shawn Stewart and the late Greg Schroll. He is the grandson of Ella and Harold Garrison of Hodgenville, Shirley and the late Bernie Schroll of Louisville, and Virginia and Sam Stewart of Hodgenville.

    If you have gone to college or have had a child go, chances are you’ve filled out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, better known as FAFSA. Changes to this form announced by the Obama administration in 2015 are about to go into effect for the 2017-2018 school year.

    The LaRue County School Board meets at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the LCHS.

  • Helping break barriers to learning

    Since 1990, family resource and youth service centers have been available to help academically at-risk students succeed in school by minimizing or eliminating non-cognitive barriers to learning.

    In LaRue County Schools, Machelle Durham is the FRC coordinator at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, Melissa Pearman at Hodgenville, and Marsha Duncan YSC coordinator at the middle and high schools.

    The goal of the FRYSCs is to meet the needs of all children and their families served by the centers as a means to enhance student academic success.

  • Mora LCMS band director

    Band students at LaRue County Middle School will have a new band director for the 2016-2017 school year.

    Stephanie Mora, 25, of Elizabethtown was recently hired as the new LCMS band director. She graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 2008 and graduated from Morehead State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 2012.

    Mora has played the clarinet since she was ten-years-old and in the sixth grade. She then continued to play throughout high school and college.

  • Patterson LCHS band director

    Alex Patterson, 24, an accomplished musician and teacher, has joined LaRue County High School as the new Hawks band director.

    Patterson grew up in nearby Greensburg, graduating from Green County High School in 2010, where his father was a band director.

    “I had a heavy musical influence from family,” Patterson said. “I’ve always wanted to be a band director, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had.”

  • High school students complete Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts Program

    This summer, The Kentucky Center hosted more than 250 eager young artists from every region of the Commonwealth, as The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) took place at Danville’s Centre College from June 19 to July 9.

    Pickleball

    Pickleball is being played at 5:30 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays at the Board of Education gym on College Street. Pickleball is free to anyone interested in learning the sport, a combination of tennis and ping-pong. All equipment provided.
