  • Marine’s mother shares memories of son with ALES students

    Last Monday, Abraham Lincoln Elementary School students returned to their campus to find small acorns and photos of a young Matt Hanson hanging from the “Matt Hanson tree” which had been planted last spring in the fallen soldier’s honor. No one knew where the photos had come from or the reason for the acorns hanging by string from the young oak.

    Fourth District Choir auditions are 2:45-4 p.m. Aug. 19. The choir will practice 2:45-4 p.m. Aug. 24 and 26.

  • New personnel bring fresh talent to LaRue schools

    Several new personnel have joined the ranks of LaRue County Schools’ employees as the 2010-11 year gets under way.

    LaRue County Middle School has a new principal, Bob Bright, and assistant principal, Bobby Hart. Also joining the LCMS staff are science teachers Kendall Cook, Deena Paden and Pamela Walters; language arts teachers Andrea Gribbins and Vicky Wright; food service assistant, Pam Dosier; and part-time custodian, Elizabeth Ramsey.

  • LaRue juniors pass state ACT average once again

    LaRue County High School juniors made a “three-peat” last spring when, for the third straight year, the school surpassed the state average on the ACT.

     

    “Credit goes to our staff who have intentionally put strategies in place to expose our students to ACT type questions and to our students and parents who value the importance of the ACT and its role in postsecondary education,” said Paul Mullins, LCHS principal.

     

  • Hornback uses new techniques to improve LaRue schools

    Sarah Hornback, director of family services for LaRue County Schools, is one of the first educational professionals in the nation to become a Certified Manager in Program Improvement.

  • State's first hybrid school bus will travel North Lyons route

    When LaRue County students return to classes Thursday, some of them will be transported by the state’s first hybrid electric school bus.

    Bus 133 was purchased with a grant from the first round of federal stimulus dollars helping public schools become more eco-friendly. LaRue is one of 22 districts awarded a share of $13 million in stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the Department of Energy.

    The LaRue County School Board heard the following personnel recommendations Aug. 16:

    Accepted recommendation for employment:

    • Bobby E. Hart as assistant principal at LaRue County Middle School.

    • Aaron K. Howell as teacher at LaRue County High School
