  • School board approves tentative budget

     The LaRue County School Board approved a tentative budget May 19.

    Property, franchise, motor vehicle and utility taxes remain the same as the current year working budget.

    The district’s largest chunk of revenue comes from SEEK (Support Education Excellence in Kentucky) funding – $10.5 million. Another $3 million comes from property and vehicle taxes.

  • Career readiness assessed by test

     This year, LaRue County High School tried out a career readiness exam for students.

    Kelly Sandidge, the school’s guidance counselor and director of student services, presented information about “WorkKeys” at the May 19 school board meeting.

  • Rutledge earns nursing degree from Saint Joe's

     

     Angela Rutledge of Buffalo, graduated in December from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine with a Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner. Rutledge is a home health nurse at VNA Nazareth.

  • WKU announces graduates

     Western Kentucky University conferred degrees to its largest spring baccalaureate graduating class ever on Saturday as three undergraduate ceremonies wrapped up the University’s 175th Commencement.

    WKU conferred 1,545 baccalaureate degrees, 120 associate degrees and 33 undergraduate certificates. 

    In a fitting ceremony on Armed Forces Day, 14 Hilltopper Battalion Army ROTC cadets – including Micah Farmer of Upton – were commissioned as second lieutenants.

  • Juniors spending summer at GSP

    Five LaRue County High School juniors have been selected for a five-week Governor’s Scholars summer program and a classmate has been chosen to attend the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs.

    Attending one of three Kentucky universities‚ Bellarmine, Morehead or Murray, this summer are Brian Anderson, Kaelyn Herrin, Madison Lee, Emma Shelton and Darian White. Aaron Elswick will participate in the three-week GSE program at Georgetown College.

    LaRue County High School seniors had their traditional group photo taken Thursday morning at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Park.

  • Free Class at Springfield

     

    Workforce Solutions at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, in partnership with Lincoln Trail Career Center, is offering free training for youth ages 17-21 this summer for a Certified Production Technician.

    The training, offered at no cost, will be held on the Springfield Campus.
