  • ECTC celebrates love of words with Litfest

     Elizabethtown Community and Technical College is devoting an entire week to “LitFest! 2013: A Festival for the Love of Words.”

    Starting Monday, April 8, the college’s English Department, Fine Arts and Humanities Division and Multicultural Committee are celebrating words and literature with a variety of educational and entertaining events.

  • Pepper visits Guatemala on mission trip

     Nearly 50 Campbellsville University students, faculty and staff sacrificed spring break for ministry opportunities in Haiti, Florida, New York and Guatemala.

    The Guatemala mission team worked with Prince of Peace Orphanage for Girls. Lucas Pepper, a sophomore from Hodgenville, accompanied the group.

    Ed Pavy, director of campus ministries who went on the trip, said, “Prince of Peace is a place where the girls have been given hope for their future-how appropriate it is named for our Savior.”

  • Brown named to Bellarimine's dean's list

     Bellarmine University has named New Haven resident Mary Brown to the dean's list for fall 2012.

    Brown is a freshman majoring in biochemistry & molecular biology, and previously attended Nelson County High School.

    Bellarmine's dean's list recognizes students who receive a grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.

  • Special section honors Class of 2013

     All LaRue County High School seniors are being asked to participate in an annual graduation keepsake section published by The LaRue County Herald News.

    The high school has provided photos of each senior.

    The students are requested to fill out a questionnaire provided by the class sponsor, Rex Hanson.

  • Dropout age raised to 18

     On Monday, the General Assembly passed a law giving school boards the option to raise the dropout age for high school students.

  • Hughes enjoying role as interim principal

     One might say that Eric Hughes, who started Feb. 4 as interim assistant principal at LaRue County Middle School, has been in education since he was born.

  • School Board: Personnel changes heard

     The LaRue County Board of Education heard the following personnel recommendations at its March 18 meeting at LaRue County High School:

    Employment of:

    • James Howell as substitute bus driver at LaRue County Bus Garage

    • Jane Kelley as instructional monitor at Kids’ Crew

    • Sue Williamson as P.E. teacher at Hodgenville Elementary School

    • Cecilia Osborne as part-time literacy assistant at HES

    • Kyle King as part-time literacy assistant at HES
