  • High school academic team preparing for January’s Governor’s Cup competition

    The LaRue County High School Academic Team competed in the Green River Regional Academic League this fall. This league includes LaRue County High School, Adair County High School, Green County High School and Taylor County High School.  
    The following students placed in Written Assessment part of the league’s fall competition:
    • Emily Farrar – second place in written composition
    • Bethany Lope – fourth place in written composition
    • Delaina White – fifth place in written composition

  • Schools not immune to surges in energy costs

    Skyrocketing energy costs are eating into the budgets of almost all businesses and organizations and schools aren’t immune. For example, U.S. EPA Energy Star states that “energy costs are the largest expense for school districts after salaries and benefits.”
    The 2011 fiscal year expenditures for LaRue County Schools showed $367,049.89 for electricity, $60,474.06 for natural gas, and $42,695.57 for water and sewage.

  • Trio named to Dean's List in Savannah

    Three LaRue Countians have been named to the Dean's List at the Savannah College of Art and Design for fall quarter 2011.

    They include Ian Mather of Buffalo; Timothy Gibson of Hodgenville; and Jeshua Logsdon of Upton.

    Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the Dean's List.

    The LaRue County Middle School Robo Hawks were the featured presenters Thursday at the Hodgenville Rotary Club. The Robo Hawks will compete at the First Lego League Regional Dec. 3 in Owensboro. Team members are from left, Assistant Coach Price Smith, Mary Gearon, Isaac Johnson, Parker Smith, Celeste Menard, Ethan Johnson, Gilbert Cox and Head Coach David Walsh.

  • School board approves new calendar

    The LaRue County School Board approved last week the calendar for the 2012-13 school year.
    An amendment was made to designated Dec. 19 and 20, 2012 as potential make up days if school is missed before Christmas. Overall the calendar mimics previous years, according to the Curriculum Coordinating Committee.
    Opening day for students will be Aug. 6; Fall break is scheduled for Oct. 1-5; Winter break is scheduled for Dec. 19- Jan. 1; Spring break is scheduled for April 1-5; and the last day for students is scheduled for May 21.

  • Band of Hawks invited to march in Inaugural Parade

    The LaRue County High School Marching Band of Hawks has been invited to march in the Dec. 13 Inaugural Parade in Frankfort.
    The parade, part of the 59th Kentucky Governor’s Inauguration, is 10 a.m.-noon. It will begin at the intersection of Wilkinson Boulevard and Broadway Street and will conclude in front of the Capitol.  
    Gov. Steve Beshear and first lady Jane Beshear, and Lt. Governor-elect Jerry Abramson and Mrs. Abramson will wave to the crowd from open horse-drawn carriages provided by the Kentucky Horse Park.

  • LCHS delegation honored in Louisville

    The LaRue County High School delegation had an award-winning experience and a special visitor at the biannual Kentucky Youth Assembly. LCHS attended the Nov. 20-22 session.
    KYA is an experiential learning conference held in Frankfort and Louisville. The program is sponsored by the Kentucky YMCA Youth Assocation. Overall, 45 delegations registered for the conference. State Representative Michael Meredith met with LCHS students in Frankfort on Nov. 21.
