  • Camp Invention is contagious, learning fun at ALES

    Thomas Edison is quoted as saying, “To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.”

    Participants at Camp Invention starting at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School next week take this message to heart as they find creative ways, using common everyday materials, to solve problems that are presented to them.

    The great thing about finding solutions, according to veteran camp director and retired teacher Kathy Ross, is the campers have a blast.

  • Camps provide summer learning activities

    With cooperation among LaRue County School District’s gifted program, family resource, and youth service centers, more than 125 students enjoyed a week of activities at Hodgenville Elementary School that ranged from learning how to play guitar to how to make a fruit smoothie in a plastic bag.

    Quest 2014 camp, that ran Monday through Friday mornings last week, offered enrichment classes to primary talent pool students and identified gifted and talented students.

  • ALES students honored for AR progress

    Abraham Lincoln Elementary School students were honored for achieving various Accelerated Reader goals during the school year.

  • Kids Crew to 'explore the natural world'

    With the theme, “Exploring the Natural World,” Kids Crew Plus Director Denise Rose has lessons, field trips and activities planned for this summer focusing on biology, ecology and horticulture.

    “We’ll also have a two-week science camp taught by Laura Evans, a Hodgenville Elementary School teacher,” said Rose, who has served as Kids Crew director for the past three years.

    The educational activities are designed to help participants learn and strengthen their social and emotional skills while having fun, according to Rose.

  • School Board unhappy with FRC personnel cuts

    School board member Joanna Hinton expressed her displeasure at Monday’s board meeting after learning three positions within the Family Resource Centers were being eliminated.

    The three positions are being replaced by one person providing administrative support at Central Office.

    Hinton said she had been contacted over the last week by several people affected by the decision.
