Skyler Hornback, son of Jeff and Barbara Hornback of Sonora, won the Elementary Division of the 46th Annual North Central Kentucky Spelling Bowl held at Elizabethtown Community College April 23. He competed with other third, fourth, and fifth grade school winners from Hardin, Meade, Grayson, Hart, Nelson, Washington, Bullitt, Taylor, Breckinridge, Green, and Marion counties. He represented Abraham Lincoln Elementary School where he is a fourth grade student.

Hornback said several of his other words were much harder than his winning word of “accessory.”

Even though the last bell of the spring semester will soon sound, summer learning activities abound for LaRue County students.

At Kids Crew, director Stephanie Ash has planned a variety of events and programs. An American Red Cross representative will conduct a swim safety course for school age children on June 3. Each Friday those children will board a bus to LaRue County swimming pool after lunch. 

Eight LaRue County High School students recently earned the right to perform in the Fourth District Band Director’s Association Honor Bands. Katy Nash, flute; David Cruse, alto saxophone; Nathaniel Nash trumpet; Brittany Carman, euphonium; Isaac Burd, tuba; Eli Ernst, snare; Travis Hornback, snare; and Aaron Boone keyboard percussion, were selected among hundreds who auditioned for a select number of spots in the ensembles.

Travis Hornback, a senior at LaRue County High school, recently earned a spot in the Kentucky All-State Jazz Ensemble. Hundreds of people auditioned to be in the All-State Jazz Band, but only 23 were selected. Travis was among the 23.
