  • Brown named to Bellarimine's dean's list

     Bellarmine University has named New Haven resident Mary Brown to the dean's list for fall 2012.

    Brown is a freshman majoring in biochemistry & molecular biology, and previously attended Nelson County High School.

    Bellarmine's dean's list recognizes students who receive a grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.

  • Special section honors Class of 2013

     All LaRue County High School seniors are being asked to participate in an annual graduation keepsake section published by The LaRue County Herald News.

    The high school has provided photos of each senior.

    The students are requested to fill out a questionnaire provided by the class sponsor, Rex Hanson.

     The LaRue County Board of Education heard the following personnel recommendations at its March 18 meeting at LaRue County High School:

    Employment of:

    • James Howell as substitute bus driver at LaRue County Bus Garage

    • Jane Kelley as instructional monitor at Kids’ Crew

    • Sue Williamson as P.E. teacher at Hodgenville Elementary School

    • Cecilia Osborne as part-time literacy assistant at HES

    • Kyle King as part-time literacy assistant at HES

  • Two LaRue speech students bring home state championships

     The LaRue County High School and LaRue County Middle School Speech Teams competed at the Kentucky High School Speech League State Speech Championships this past week at the University of Kentucky and returned home with top individual honors in both divisions.

  • Amanda Reed named assistant superintendent

     As of Feb. 25, LaRue County Schools have an assistant superintendent.

    Amanda Reed, who has been with the district since 1996, has assumed the assistant superintendent duties after serving as instructional supervisor for 11 years.

  • BETA Club takes on district competition

     The BETA Club chapter at LaRue County High School attended the spring Third District BETA convention on March 15.

    Nineteen LaRue County students attended and competed in many different academic tests – quiz bowl, talent and arts and crafts competitions. LaRue County had an outstanding showing, being the first year that they have participated in this convention.

  • Fifth-grader wins essay contest

     Nicholas Vazquez, a fifth-grade student at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, was the LaRue County winner of an essay contest sponsored by the Elizabethtown-Hardin-LaRue Retired Teachers Association.

    The topic was: “Why My Grandparent Should be the AARP/KRTA Grandparent of the Year.” Nicholas read his winning essay at the March 15 meeting of EHLRTA.

    He wrote about his grandmother Wanda Howard.

    He received a medal and gift certificate to Barnes & Noble and became eligible to participate in the state finals.
