  • Unbridled Learning Scores: LaRue in top 11 percent

     Results from the Unbridled Learning accountability assessment released last week show that LaRue County School District’s scores placed among the top 11 percent of the 174 school districts across Kentucky.

    The district was at the 89th percentile, the Proficient level, meaning that its scores were equal to or better than 89 percent of the districts taking the new statewide testing assessment.

     While keeping in touch with friends on social media sites is fun, giving out too much information can lead to financial problems. These tips from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) may help you limit your exposure.

    Unscrupulous people may try to use your posted information to commit crimes. To help protect yourself and your personal information, follow these tips:

    · Make your contact information private. Never post your phone number, address or e-mail address. Scammers can piece together your identity from this information.

  • Russell Despain inducted into Honor Society

     Russell Despain of Campbellsville is one of 78 Eastern Kentucky University juniors, seniors and graduate students who will be inducted into the EKU chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi during a special ceremony on Nov. 13.

    Despain is among about 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.

  • 'Like' KHEAA to enter iPad drawing

     Kentucky residents have another chance to win a third-generation iPad from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority in a sweepstakes being held through Facebook in November. The contest runs through midnight on Dec. 1.

    To enter, a Kentuckian must click on the orange graduate icon on the KHEAA Facebook page, answer one question about college, and “like” KHEAA on Facebook. KHEAA will not share or sell any personal information to a third party.

  • ON EDUCATING LARUE: Schools take anti-bullying measures

     More than 500 LaRue County public school students signed an anti-bullying pledge as part of Kentucky Safe Schools Week Oct. 21-27.

    The Kentucky Center for Safe Schools named this year’s safety campaign ”Bullying: Be a Part of the Cure.”

  • Band of Hawks take third

    The LaRue County High School Band of Hawks took third in the AA Division in the Kentucky Music Educators Association State Championship.

    The Band placed in the top four bands in its class in semifinals, earning the right to compete Saturday night at Western Kentucky University.
