  • HES fifth graders plan to attend Leaders Conference

    Four Hodgenville Elementary School fifth graders will spend part of their summer vacation in our nation’s capital attending the Junior National Young Leaders Conference June 2-8.
    HES teacher Renee Wright nominated Emma Bell, Trey Ireland, Logan Rock and Kylee Thurman for the conference that she says will help them to enhance their leadership skills and to better utilize those skills upon their return.

  • Cole Nugent invited to participate in Duke TIP Center Summer Studies

    Cole Nugent, the 13-year-old son of Paul and Lisa Nugent of Hodgenville, has qualified to attend the Duke University Talent Identification Program Center Summer Studies.

    He has chosen to study "Frogs, Bogs and Pollywogs: Biology of Amphibians and Reptiles", on the campus of New College in Sarasota, Fla.

    He’ll participate in classroom studies and field trips.

  • Hannah Mayfield earns B.S. in nursing

    Hannah Renee Mayfield received a bachelor of science in nursing from Western Kentucky University on Dec. 17, 2011. She graduated Summa Cum Laude.

    Upon graduation, Mayfield was employed by The Medical Center in Bowling Green as a surgical nurse.

    She is the daughter of Greg Mayfield of Hodgenville and Melanie Read of Magnolia.

  • LaRue Middle School students celebrate ‘kick butts’ day

    The LaRue County Health Department hosted Kick Butts Day March 21 at LaRue County Middle School.
    Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism that empowers youth to speak up and take action against “Big Tobacco.”
    Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, killing more than 400,000 people every year. Every day, more than 4,000 kids try their first cigarettes; another 1,000 kids become addicted smokers, one-third of whom will die prematurely as a result.
