Ian Mather, a 2009 graduate of LaRue County High School, was honored with a Savannah College of Art and Design Ovation Award for Best Actor in a Studio Thesis or Lab Show for his performance as Scooter in the play “Scooter Thomas Makes it to the Top of the World.”

Mather, a junior at SCAD, is the son of Kim Mather of Buffalo and Donnie Mather and Ismael Lopez of New York City; and the grandson of the late Garland and Ruth Blair and the late Donald and LaHoma Mather.
 

This week, 127 of LaRue County’s gifted and talented students are on quests to broaden their knowledge while pursuing enjoyable activities at Hodgenville Elementary School.

“Quest ’13 provides enriching, challenging learning experiences for gifted-talented/talent pool students in LaRue County schools,” said Karyn Brey, district Read to Achieve intervention teacher and elementary gifted/talented coordinator.

 Research shows that many of us are not getting enough nutrient dense foods, the foods that give our bodies the most benefit. Instead we are eating too many solid fats (unhealthy fats), added sugar, refined grains, sodium and saturated fat. 

Bullfrogs & Butterflies Child Development Center installed Playsafer Rubber Mulch on their playground on May 28. The installation was made possible through a matching grant from the Kentucky Division of Waste Management.

“We did a lot of fundraising and several parents donated to help match the grant,” said Patty Edwards, director. “In all, the improvements totaled over $10,000.”
