  • Safety a top priority on school buses

    School districts are given the responsibility not only to provide the best education possible for their students, but also to pick them up and return them home safely.

    School bus drivers are trained and the buses are equipped with safety equipment all intended to make each student’s ride to and from school safe.

    Phil Fulkerson, LaRue County School District’s director of transportation and maintenance, noted a partial list of safety equipment on buses.

  • Nursery Rhyme Day at HES

    Students and faculty at Hodgenville Elementary School dressed up as their favorite nursery rhyme character during Nursery Rhyme Dress-Up Day on August 28.

    Preschool children ages 2-4 and their parents are invited to Wee Time, where preschool children can become familiar with the school they will attend. The event is September 14 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the LaRue County Board of Education. The color for the event is red.     Being named one of six outstanding high school agricultural programs in America by the National Association of Agriculture Educators means that LaRue County High School teachers Misty Bivens and Chris Thomas are keeping abreast of the ever changing face of agriculture.

  • Adult education center drives workforce develpment

    Adult education centers offer a lifeline to adults who want to expand opportunities available to them. In every county across Kentucky, adult education centers offer a number of free services such as academic instruction, GED preparation, skills training and more. By reaching adults who are underemployed, unemployed or not currently in the labor market, the centers also are key partners in developing a strong workforce.

  • Kindergarten transition tips

    Although school is already under way, if you have a child who has just started kindergarten, you may want to look through this list of items and see if there is anything else that you still want/need to do. This is a great time to put practices in place that will help your child have a great first year in school. If there are some things you find that you haven’t done, it’s not too late to begin.

  • Reading program focuses on boys

    While doing some research for a library course last winter, I stumbled across a website which led me where I never dreamed I would be going. Moreover, it led me to a deeper understanding of issues with boys and reading than I could have imagined. This website was called GuysRead.com. Created by children’s book author, Jon Scieszka, it is entirely devoted to promoting books that boys would enjoy. From the website, we find the following points being made about boys and reading:
