  • Couple charged with burglary, officers recover property

    A complaint about a stinky burn pile and gunfire led to a break in a burglary case.
    LaRue County Deputy Matt Darst made contact with residents at 2070 Dan Dunn Road in the Roanoke area on Aug. 26 after neighbors complained about “outdoor fires burning at all hours” and the sound of gunshots at the property.
    Darst said he spoke to Michael Allen Baker and Paula Jean Baker, both 38, about the complaints and asked to search the home. Michael Allen Baker, as a convicted felon, is not permitted to own firearms, Darst said.

  • Man charged with unlawful access of computer

    A Buffalo man was charged Aug. 24 with seven counts of unlawful access to a computer after he allegedly took lottery tickets from his employer for his own use.
    According to Hodgenville City Police Chief Steve Johnson, Adam C. Packard, 31, was caught on surveillance video “taking scratch-off lottery tickets, scratching off the bottom part and scanning them to see if they were winners.” If they weren’t winners, he “threw them away without paying for them.”
    He had been working at IGA Express for about two weeks, Johnson said.

  • Police warn of counterfeit bills

    About 10 counterfeit bills have cropped up in Hodgenville businesses in the last two weeks.
    “The most I’ve seen are $20 bills,” said Hodgenville City Police Chief Steve Johnson. “One was a $10 bill.”
    The bills are being passed at convenience stores and fast food restaurants, Johnson said. Store owners are urged to look closely at bills and not accept any that appear suspicious.
    One fake $20 bill was traced to a man who had received it in change from a small store in Hudgins in Green County, Johnson said.

  • Man receives five-year suspended sentence

    Lonnie Frye (1978) received a five year suspended sentence Aug. 15 in LaRue Circuit Court. He was sentenced to three years, suspended, for complicity, possession of controlled substance, credit for 91 days served; 12 months, suspended, for complicity, use or possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Sentence to be probated for five years.

  • Indictments: Aug. 15, 2011

    Several people were indicted by a grand jury in LaRue Circuit Court in August. Arraignment for each is Sept. 6.
    Anthony T. Scherer (1970) of Hodgenville was indicted Aug. 15 on one count each of receiving stolen property, first-degree fleeing and evading police and first-degree persistent felony offender.
    He is accused of taking a 2006 Jeep, knowing that it was stolen or having reason to believe it was stolen, valued at $10,000 or more. The alleged offenses occurred June 8.

  • Hardin County deputy jailer charged with assault

    A Hardin County deputy jailer was arrested Friday in Elizabethtown for assault and trespassing.

    Kentucky State Police said Logan M. Noyes, 22, was charged with assault, fourth degree, and criminal trespassing, first degree, after an altercation broke out with another man at a home on Alexander Drive.

  • Hodgenville man charged with trafficking in cocaine

    A Hodgenville man was charged Aug. 26 with trafficking in cocaine and driving while under the influence.

    Jamarquis VanDarren Handley, 28, allegedly had 8 grams of cocaine in his vehicle during a traffic stop, according to Constable Tim Ford.

    Ford said he had noticed Handley driving side-to-side and pulled him over on Fairview Drive.

    Handley was charged also with careless driving and possession of controlled substance.

    Handley was lodged in the LaRue County Detention Center and will be arraigned in LaRue District Court.

  • Video catches break-in at Glendale Christian Church

    Glendale Christian Church security cameras caught the same man ransacking the building for what the congregation believes is the fourth time in the last two years early Monday morning.

    Despite the video footage and police investigations, the suspect is at-large, Brother Mike Bell said.

    “We got him. We know what he looks like, but we can't catch him,” Bell said.

    This time the suspect was in the church between 12:30 and 3 a.m. Monday, he said.

  • Four inmates test positive for marijuana

    The work release program was suspended temporarily at the LaRue County Detention Center last week when four state inmates tested positive for marijuana use.
    Jailer Johnny Cottrill said drug screens were given after an inmate had a seizure that was suspected to be related to drug use. It turned out that the inmate was dehydrated, but four others had apparently smoked pot at their work site. He declined to say where they were working.
    One hundred twenty-eight state inmates were tested for drugs.
