  • Louisville man charged with cashing forged check

    A Louisville man has been charged with second-degree forgery, second-degree criminal possession of forged instrument and theft by unlawful taking or disposition.
    Derrick (AKA Derek) Saunders, 27, allegedly attempted to cash a forged payroll check on the account of Sunrise Manor Nursing Home last September.
    According to Chief Deputy Russell McCoy, Saunders showed his driver’s license as proof of identity when he cashed the forged check at a local convenience store in the amount of $384.12.

  • COLD CASE: 20 years later, sister seeks brother's killer

     George Lollis was known as a man who loved nothing more than spending time with nature. Described as a loner, he was interested in planting gardens and living an eco-friendly life on his farm in New Hope.

    “(George) was a person who didn’t fit a description,” George’s sister, Eleanor Lollis-Rose, said. “He was more comfortable being out of the mainstream.”

  • Several indicted in Hart County

    The Hart County grand jury handed down several indictments in April.

    Wendell G. Ake Jr.,38, was charged with impersonating a peace officer by unlawfully pretending to represent a law enforcement agency with the intent to induce another person to submit to false official authority.

    Jeffrey L. Rice,43, Buffalo, was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, cocaine.

  • Several indicted in April by grand jury

    Several people were indicted April 16 by a LaRue County grand jury.
    They are:
    Johnny Wood (1951) of Upton was indicted on one count of manufacturing methamphetamine and complicity; two counts of possession of a controlled substance and complicity; possession of drug paraphernalia and complicity; and possession of prescription not in a proper container and complicity.
    The alleged offenses occurred March 29. He is accused of acting alone or in concert with Coleman Ferriss.

  • Court Briefs - April 25, 2012

    Failed to appear
    Aaron S. Kennedy (1991) failed to appear in LaRue Circuit Court April 16. A bench warrant was issued and he was declared a fugitive. He was originally charged with complicity, burglary and third-degree criminal mischief.

    Contempt
    Jeffrey D. Nadeau was ordered to serve 30 days for contempt by agreement April 16.

    Probation revoked
    Probation of Anthony Scherer (1970) was revoked April 16.

  • Jail inmates, deputy, charged with promoting contraband

    A former LaRue County deputy jailer is facing charges of promoting contraband at the jail.
    Ramona Young, 33, of Hodgenville has been charged with first-degree official misconduct and second-degree promoting contraband after allegedly providing tobacco products to an inmate, according to Hodgenville City Police Chief Steve Johnson.
    Two inmates, Charles Corcoran, 26, of Virginia, and Jeffrey Purdam, 34, of Magnolia, are facing related charges, Johnson said.

  • Man suspected in theft of checks, jewelry

    A Bardstown man is suspected of forging thousands of dollars in checks and selling jewelry from a Hodgenville burglary.

    Stuart Brent Kirtley, 30, was arrested Tuesday, April 16 after a Cox’s Creek man complained his checkbook had been stolen the day before.

    According to a press release, Bardstown Police discovered that 12 checks had been forged. Eleven were cashed for a total of $4,255.

    Bardstown Police recovered the stolen checkbook.
