  • Brown sentenced to five years

     Christopher Brown, 22, of Buffalo, was sentenced to five years incarceration for second-degree burglary in Nelson Circuit Court.

    He was denied probation because his discharge would unduly depreciate the seriousness of the defendant’s crime.

    On or about Dec. 1, 2011, Brown unlawfully entered someone’s house with the intent to commit a crime while armed with a deadly weapon and tampered with evidence by dumping a gun safe and other items in a creek with intent to impair its availability in the official proceeding.

  • Five indicted by grand jury

     Five people were indicted Oct. 16 by a LaRue County grand jury.

    Jennifer Lynn Nichols(1977) of Buffalo is charged with flagrant non-support. She allegedly failed to provide support resulting in arrearage of $12,286.80.

    Bail was set at $5,000 cash only plus conditions. The Division of Child Support investigated.

    James Gregory Parrett(1970) of Magnolia is charged with first-degree possession of controlled substance, second offense. He is accused of unlawfully possessing methamphetamine on June 28.

  • Man charged with three DUIs

     A Hodgenville man has been lodged in the LaRue County Detention Center for more than a month after being charged with three DUIs in a short timeframe.

    Benjamin Henry Burba, 58, was charged July 24, Aug. 4 and Sept. 17 with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

    In July, Officer Mark Taulbee, who is now deceased, cited Burba after he allegedly drove a 1993 blue Chevrolet into a stop sign at the intersection of Springdale and Lincoln Boulevard. The citation said Burba failed a field sobriety test.

  • About $10,000 damage reported at East Hardin Middle School

     Three Hardin County teens face burglary charges after they allegedly broke into East Hardin Middle School over the weekend, causing an estimated $10,000 in damages, police say.

    Two suspects are juveniles while Christopher Blaine, 18, of Glendale, was lodged at Hardin County Detention Center and later released on an unsecured bond Sunday night.

    All three face charges of second-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief, said Norman Chaffins, spokesman for Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown.

  • Text a tip: Report a crime

     The Kentucky State Police is initiating a new proactive program where citizens are now able to text confidential tips from their cell phone. The program, “Text a Tip,” is designed to report criminal activity, assist with neighborhood watch and serve as an additional resource for schools and college campuses.

     Jason Avis, the man allegedly involved in a chase that resulted in the death of Hodgenville City Officer Mark Taulbee, had a short day in LaRue District Court Wednesday.

  • Glendale man charged with vandalism at East Hardin Middle School

     Kentucky State Police have arrested a Glendale man on charges of burglary and criminal mischief in connection with a break-in at East Hardin Middle School.

    KSP Post 4 received a call Sunday morning from the school’s assistant principal reporting a break-in and vandalism, police said. School staff identified Christopher Blaine, 18, of Glendale on security video. Several doors and windows were destroyed, police said, resulting in thousands of dollars in damage.
