 The Nelson County Fiscal Court has approved a zone change request by the MVP Garden Center to expand its operation on New Haven Road.

The owners, Charles Richard Bryan, Thomas Frederick Newton and MVP requested a zone change from B-1 (neighborhood business district) to B-3 (regional retail business district).

The Planning Commission recommended approval for the zone change and a conditional use permit for the property at 5749 New Haven Road (US 31 E) because a nursery and greenhouse are not conditional uses in a B-3 zone.

 Hodgenville’s Pamida store will transform into Hometown Shopko by year’s end.

 Nancy Lincoln Inn, adjacent to Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park, might be a mecca for both today’s kids and their grandparent baby boomers looking for games made before the advent of high tech entertainment.

“We’ve got jacks, Pick-up-Sticks, and even wooden tops that they can spin,” said Jennifer Harris, site supervisor of the business which, since May is under the management of Eastern National, a not-for-profit “cooperating association” that supports the National Park Service.

 Unemployment rates fell in 108 Kentucky counties between June 2011 and June 2012, while 12 county rates increased, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. 

LaRue County’s rate fell from 7.8 percent in May 2012 to 7.7 percent in June 2012. It decreased from 7.9 percent in June 2011.

Of 7,050 eligible workers in the civilian workforce, 6,507 had jobs according to Kentucky Labor Force estimates.
