  • COLUMN: Work Matters

    Diverse regional team drives workforce development efforts

    Now more than ever, driving a community’s prosperity depends on effectively managing and leveraging workforce development opportunities.

  • Jobless rate down in January

     Unemployment rates fell in 117 Kentucky counties between January 2014 and January 2015, while Russell County went up, and Boyd and Elliott counties’ rates stayed the same, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

    LaRue County’s rate for January 2015 was 6.4 percent, down from 7.8 percent a year ago – but up from 4.3 percent in December 2014. Of a 5,639 workforce, 359 were unemployed. The number does not count those who are not seeking work.

  • COLUMN: Chamber board supports LIFT

     Call to action. The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in February unanimously voted to endorse LIFT (Local Investments For Transformation).  This measure passed last month in the Kentucky House and currently awaits action by members of the Kentucky Senate.   

  • Nolin's Operation Round-Up accepting applications

    Nolin RECC offers its members a unique program that allows them to voluntarily contribute to a special account earmarked to help worthy causes in the community. The program, Operation Round-Up, rounds up electric bills to the next highest dollar. The extra change in the form of quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies goes into the ORU account. Member participation is voluntary and is open throughout the year.

  • Unay Marcum named Employee of the Month

     Unay Marcum has been selected as the February Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    She has been employed with Nationwide since March 1979 and is under the supervision of JoAnn Pearman in the trouser department.

    She will receive an award for her dedication and service.

  • Deaton named Employee of the Month

     Brittany Deaton has been selected as the March Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    She has been employed with Nationwide since March 2014 and is under the supervision of Shanda Hemmer in the jacket department.

    She will receive a special award for her dedication and service.
