  • Buffalo School Apartments holds ribbon-cutting

    The old Buffalo Elementary School gymnasium was full last Wednesday, with people wanting to show their support for the remodeling of the old Buffalo Elementary School to 19 apartments.
     Johan Graham, Director of Development for AU Associates, who oversaw the project, said their goal was to build “something that would be a lasting memory.” Graham said that without the assistance of several local agencies and individuals, the project would have not been possible.

  • Sharon Jaggers joins Rust-Wright Funeral Home

    Sharon Jaggers has joined the staff of Rust-Wright Funeral Home in Hodgenville. She began duties as office manager Feb. 28.
    She has two children, Eric Jaggers of Charlestown, Ind., and Rachel Phillips of Hodgenville; and four grandchildren, Anna Kind of Jeffersonville, Ind., Emily Jaggers of Charlestown, Ind., and Hunter and Makayla Phillips of Hodgenville.
    Jaggers is a graduate of LaRue County High School and formerly worked at Nationwide Uniform.
    Her hobbies include landscaping and watching her grandkids play ball.

  • LaRue shows strong economy

    The economy may be recovering weakly in most of the nation, but figures released Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Commerce show significant improvement for Hardin and LaRue counties.

    The department's Bureau of Economic Analysis showed a gross domestic product gain of about $142 million in 2009 over 2008 numbers.

    The figures represent total gross domestic products for industries across the Elizabethtown metropolitan statistical area, which includes Hardin and LaRue counties.

  • Latham accepts teaching position

    Sarah Latham, a veterinary technician at the LaRue County Animal Clinic, has joined the staff at Brown Mackie College in Louisville. She has accepted a position as veterinary technician instructor.

  • Rissel named to advisory board

    William J. Rissel, president and chief executive officer of Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, was recently appointed to a two-year term on the newly formed Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council for the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The 12-member council will hold its inaugural meeting March 1-2 to advise Eighth District Federal Reserve Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. James Bullard on local credit, banking and economic conditions.

  • Brooke Washington named Employee of the Month

    Brooke Washington has been selected as the February Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.
    She has been employed with Nationwide since April 2008 and is under the supervision of Shirley Cobb in the trouser department.
    She will receive an award for her dedication and service.

    A former LaRue County woman was honored last month by the American Farm Bureau Federation.

    The Better Business Bureau serving Louisville, Southern Indiana, and Western Kentucky has learned that a Utah business, StoresOnline, will offer several seminars in our area this week.  
     

  • Dr. Asim Piracha named to the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure

    Dr. Asim Piracha, a partner with John-Kenyon American Eye Institute has been named to the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure.

    The four-year appointment was made by Gov. Steve Beshear.
