Nolin RECC was among 71 Kentucky businesses nominated for the Secretary of Defense’s 2011 Employer Support Freedom Award.

The announcement Thursday from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency, said Kentucky Guard and Reserve service members recommended their employers for honor. The Freedom Award is the Department of Defense’s highest recognition for employers showing exceptional support to their Guard and Reserve employees.

On-the-Job Training is a training option designed for the highest skill occupations appropriate for the Workforce Investment Act client. It is not subsidized employment for low-skill occupations that need very little training time. OJT is only appropriate for the length of time necessary for the WIA client to be trained in the specific occupation, but not to exceed six months.

Many years ago, Mount Sherman was a bustling community with several grocery stores, a feed store, a restaurant and gas station. Its landmark business, Clyde’s, was a popular spot to purchase jeans and boots up until the 1970s.

The businesses dwindled over time and about 18 months ago the last holdout, a restaurant, closed. Residents in the small community and in the northern part of Green County had to drive several miles to simply purchase a gallon of gas or a quart of milk.

Sharon Jaggers has joined the staff of Rust-Wright Funeral Home in Hodgenville. She began duties as office manager Feb. 28.
She has two children, Eric Jaggers of Charlestown, Ind., and Rachel Phillips of Hodgenville; and four grandchildren, Anna Kind of Jeffersonville, Ind., Emily Jaggers of Charlestown, Ind., and Hunter and Makayla Phillips of Hodgenville.
Jaggers is a graduate of LaRue County High School and formerly worked at Nationwide Uniform.
Her hobbies include landscaping and watching her grandkids play ball.
