  • Jobless rate down in county

     Unemployment rates fell in 108 Kentucky counties between September 2011 and September 2012, while 12 county rates increased, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. 

    LaRue County’s rate fell to 6.7 percent in September from 7.2 percent in August. In September 2011, the rate was 7.9 percent.

    Of a 6,829 civilian work force, 457 were unemployed.

     Mike Harmon was the guest speaker at the Oct. 17 LaRue County Chamber of Commerce luncheon. His topic was "Preparedness and Continuity of Operations Planning."

  • Flaget Memorial has groundbreaking for new medical office building

     Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown, a part of KentuckyOne Health, broke ground Oct. 2 on a $7.8 million medical office building dedicated to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, who founded the hospital in 1951. When finished, the SCN Medical Office Building will be a two-story structure that contains about 32,000 square feet.

    Tentative plans call for locating the Flaget Center for Orthopedics on the first floor, along with outpatient rehabilitation services. The top floor will house physician offices.

  • Durham joins Joe Guy Hagan auction team

     Patrick H. Durham has joined the newly formed Joe Guy Hagan auction team as an apprentice auctioneer and will be working under auctioneer Neil Cook out of the Bardstown area to provide  auction services to all of Central Kentucky.

    He is a graduate of LaRue County High School and Western Kentucky University with a degree in agriculture. Durham resides in Hodgenville with his wife Jennifer Durham and two sons, Thomas and Lucas.

     South Central RTC’s Annual Meeting was held at the Cave City Convention Center Oct. 4.

  • Nationwide honors Christy Girdley

     Christy Girdley has been selected as the October Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    Girdley has been employed with Nationwide since May 1993 and is under the supervision of JoAnn Pearman in the trousers department.

    She will receive an award for her dedication and service.

     Savina Villanos has been selected as the September Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    Villanos has been employed with Nationwide since April 2005 and is under the supervision of Nellie Gaskin in the trousers department.

    She will receive an award for her dedication and service.

     LaRue County’s Relay for Life is several months away, but teams already are having fundraisers.
