  • Former CEO Wade expands suit vs. Citizens Union Bank

    Defendants, claims added; jury trial scheduled for spring

    Former CEO Billie Wade’s lawsuit against Citizens Union Bank is headed for a jury trial next spring – with some new defendants and claims that were added this week.

    Wade, who had led CUB since 1991, left the bank in March 2010 amid state and federal reviews of the bank’s lending practices, and in July 2010 filed suit, charging wrongful termination, that the bank lied about his departure, cost him income and discriminated against him.

  • The Sweet Shoppe fudge offered in gift shop

    A new gift shop opened Monday inside Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Grayson County.
    Besides expected gifts such as cards, balloons and flowers, there will be a more varied fare.
    Many items in the store are USA and Kentucky made with Grayson County items featured. However, Hodgenville fudge maker Pat Durham of The Sweet Shoppe will present more than six flavored fudges, including Creamsicle and Turtle fudges.

  • Workforce Center opening this fall in LaRue library

    Job seekers will have a new resource available in LaRue County, thanks to a $1.3 million grant.
    LaRue is among 45 counties with a high unemployment rate to receive funding for a public library workforce center. The center, located in the LaRue County Public Library, will give residents more access to computers, training and job workshops.
    LaRue County’s workforce center will open in the fall, perhaps as early as August, according to Paige Sexton of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

  • Mark B. Carter named CEO of Passport Health Plan

    University Health Care, Inc. which does business as Passport Health Plan announced July 7 that Mark B. Carter has accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer. Carter has served as Interim Chief Executive Officer since December.

  • Bluegrass Cellular offers 'texting only'

    Bluegrass Cellular, a cellular service provider and pioneer in the wireless industry in rural Kentucky, is launching a text only service plan for customers who, because of a disability, are unable to communicate over a voice network. 

  • AT&T expands broadband in Hodgenville

    AT&T is expanding its mobile broadband network in Hodgenville and parts of LaRue County, extending access for advanced mobile services, devices and video content to customers in the area.
    Cathy Lewandowski, senior public relations manager for AT&T Strategic Communications, said the company is adding new cell sites, upgrading hundreds of others and deploying fiber optic cable to boost capacity across the state.
    “More and more people depend on our technology to stay connected,” she said.

  • New owners share vision for Magnolia school mall

    After sitting empty for four years, Magnolia Elementary School is getting spruced up to serve a different purpose under new ownership.
    Christine and Brent Shelton and Terry and Diane Shelton purchased the property by sealed bid from the LaRue County Board of Education through their company Quarry Hill Monuments for $60,000 last November.

  • Chamber of Commerce honors several at annual banquet

    An educator, a pair of sports-minded men and one of LaRue County’s oldest businesses were among those honored Thursday night as the LaRue County Chamber of Commerce conducted its annual awards banquet at First Baptist Church.
    Paul Mullins, principal at LaRue County High School, was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year. Mullins was praised for his positive attitude and the improvements made at the high school as he led faculty and students through the Laptops of LaRue project.
