 AU Associates, the Lexington development company that transformed Buffalo Elementary School into Buffalo Apartments, has completed another project.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported Monday that the company has finished Parkside, a development in Gardenside built on a 6-acre site that was formerly the Cross Keys YWCA.

The building was the Cabana Club in the 1960s. It housed Lexington’s only ice skating rink.

In the 1970s it was The Aquatic Club with pool and putt-putt miniature golf course.

The former owners of Sammy’s Market in Sonora are the subject of a civil suit filed earlier this month after allegedly falling behind on credit payments.

Owned by Sammy and Nelda Wooten, Sammy’s Market closed its doors in October after 35 years in business. The locally owned market consisted of a store and gas station.

In an interview with The News-Enterprise last October, the couple said they were trying to sell the property at 490 E. Western Ave.

They have retained an attorney, Nelda Wooten said, but she declined to comment further.

 Aaron LaRue, vice president and Bardstown branch manager of LaRue Insurance Inc., received the Outstanding Young Insurance Professional Award during the 115th Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky annual convention. LaRue is the outgoing chairman. 

He joined the agency in 2000 and is the third generation in the family-owned business.

He offers home, farm, auto, business, life and health insurance.

 A large crowd turned out for the Jan. 18 LaRue County Chamber of Commerce luncheon. The networking event was held in the Brockman Center, Campbellsville University, Hodgenville. Charles R. Crain, an instructor of business at Campbellsville University, was the guest speaker.
