  • Park an economic boon to area

     A new National Park Service report shows that 241,264 visitors to Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park in 2014 spent $13 million dollars in communities near the park.

    That spending supported 227 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of Hodgenville.

  • Unemployment rate falls from 2014

    Unemployment rates fell in all 120 Kentucky counties between March 2014 and March 2015, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

    LaRue County’s jobless rate was 5.6 percent in March 2015, compared to 7.7 percent a year ago.

  • Unemployment rate fell in all 120 counties in 2014

    Annual unemployment rates were lower in all 120 Kentucky counties in 2014 than in 2013, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. 

    LaRue County’s annual rate was 6.5 percent in 2014, down from 8 percent in 2014.

    There were 374 people unemployed on average in 2014, compared to 471 in 2013. The number of employable workers (civilian labor force) decreased from 5,882 in 2013 to 5,714 in 2014.

  • LTADD holds meeting

    The Lincoln Trail Area Development District held its 47th annual meeting on April 15, at My Old Kentucky Home State Park in Bardstown, with more than 160 guests from the region’s eight counties and other areas of the Commonwealth.  
    The presentation of the LTADD Board of Directors’ prestigious Palmer “Pete” Petersen Award to George Spragens of Lebanon and the acceptance of the Dorothy Dolle Award by Marilyn Craycroft of Brandenburg highlighted the meeting.

  • Fort Knox FCU to hold annual meeting May 12

     Fort Knox Federal Credit Union will report on its 2014 business performance to its members, who are also the owners of the Credit Union, at its membership meeting on May 12, at the Performing Arts Center, John Hardin High School, 384 W.A. Jenkins Road, Elizabethtown. 

    The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. and doors will open at 5 p.m.

    Fort Knox Federal has a total of 15 branches throughout central Kentucky, including a branch in southern Jefferson County.

    Fort Knox Federal Credit Union will report on its 2014 business performance to its members, who are also the owners of the Credit Union, during the 64th annual membership meeting on May 12, at the Performing Arts Center, John Hardin High School, 384 W.A. Jenkins Road, Elizabethtown.

    The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. and doors will open at 5 p.m.

     “We (the Board of Directors, volunteers and staff) are very pleased to report to our membership on the progress of their Credit Union,” said Jo Exler, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

    Ron McCray from Glendale has been recognized by Avon Products, Inc., as one of the beauty company's top representatives in the U.S.

    In honor of this recognition, the company rewarded McCray, along with other top Avon representatives at the company, a trip to Los Angeles, California, to celebrate their success during the annual President's Recognition Program Celebration.
