  • United Way Launches Bank On Program

     United Way of Central Kentucky, nine local financial institutions and several government leaders celebrated May 6 the founding of a new program, Bank On Central Kentucky, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at City Hall in Elizabethtown. 

  • New sign shop Blazin’ with design

    Riding around Hodgenville and LaRue County you have probably see his work. Signs, banners, shirts, custom license plates, window and vehicle wraps – all designed by Joshua Singer.

    Singer recently moved his business, Blazin Xpressions, from his home to 212 N. Lincoln Blvd. in Hodgenville.

    Born in Louisville, Singer spent his early years in LaRue County. He attended school at Buffalo Elementary School until his family moved to Pennsylvania in 1985. Singer graduated from Red Land High School in Lewisberry, Penn.

  • Family Dollar to open in Magnolia

     Just two years after Dollar General Store opened in Magnolia, another discount retailer has plans to build nearby.

  • BH Media purchases The Roanoke Times

    BH Media Group, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, will purchase The Roanoke Times from Landmark Media Enterprises on Friday.

    Landmark Media Enterprises is the parent company of The LaRue County Herald News.

    Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, a newspaper merger and acquisition firm in Santa Fe, New Mexico, represented Landmark Media Enterprises in the transaction. Terms were not disclosed.

  • Nationwide Uniform honors Hawkins and Cuevas

    Rosa Cuevas was selected as the March Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.
    She has been employed with Nationwide since October 2005 and is under the supervision of JoAnn Pearman in the trouser department.
    Venita Hawkins was selected as the April Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.
    She has been employed with Nationwide since August 1976 and is under the supervision of Nellie Gaskin in the trouser department.
    They will receive awards for their dedication and service.

     Unemployment rates fell in 91 Kentucky counties between February 2012 and February 2013, while 26 county rates increased and three stayed the same, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. 

  • Cyndi Martin joins ReMax team

     Cyndi Martin of Elizabethtown has joined Billy Ward’s Remax Executive Group in Sonora.

    The new agent is originally from Columbus, Ohio, but moved to Kentucky in 2002 with her husband, Scott, and three sons.

     Daniel Risner of Buffalo has joined Make It Happen Realty, LLC, in Elizabethtown, as an agent.

    Risner, a native of Hardin County, teaches at Caverna Elementary School. He recently completed his Realtor training.

  • Jobless rate down in February

     Unemployment rates fell in 91 Kentucky counties between February 2012 and February 2013, while 26 county rates increased and three stayed the same, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

    LaRue County’s rate was 8 percent in February, down from 8.3 percent in January. It was down a full point from the February 2012 rate of 9 percent.

    Of a workforce of 6,872 people, 550 were seeking employment.

     LaRue County is home to two of the 103 markets across the Commonwealth recently accepted into the 2013 Kentucky Farm Bureau Certified Roadside Farm Market Program: Hinton’s Orchard and Farm Market and Lee’s Garden Center.

    In joining the Kentucky Farm Bureau Certified Roadside Farm Market Program, these markets have committed to offering quality products and service to their customers.
