  • Coaches kickstart new careers

    Within the past four years, three former LaRue County veteran school educators and coaches –Rodney Armes, Chris Estes and Dee Hutchins Jr. – have made the difficult decision to leave the classroom in order to focus on their careers as independent distributors of Zija, a worldwide marketer of health and wellness products.
    Estes, a former middle school physical education teacher with eight years experience in the county, resigned from the school system in 2010.

    Slim & Trim Fitness, located at 217B S. Maple Street in Sonora, has become a certified SilverSneakers facility.
    SilverSneakers offers free basic fitness membership to members of participating Medicare health plans.

  • Stormie's Stitches opens downtown

    Stormie Sidebottom began embroidering when she decided to add flair to a baby quilt for a close friend and colleague.
    “I had made my daughter Ashley’s clothes when she was little and then I got out of it once I started working a lot. The baby quilt I embroidered later on is where I got my start – everything just went from there,” said Sidebottom. “It started out as a hobby and I just loved it.”

    A group from Hodgenville and surrounding counties had a lunch cruise Sept. 4 on the Spirit of Jefferson in Louisville. The cruise was sponsored by Bancorp Investment Office and hosted by local representatives Regina Byrd, Page Beard and Gail Kelly.

  • Hemmer named Nationwide Employee of Month

    Shanda Hemmer has been selected as the October Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    She has been employed with Nationwide since September 2011 and is under the supervision of Janice Perkins in the jacket department.

    She will receive an award for her service.

  • Bluegrass Pipeline offers community grants

    Officials with the Bluegrass Pipeline are accepting applications for its community grant program, which benefits projects in counties affected by the pipeline. The pipeline has been proposed to transport natural gas liquids along a 1,100-mile route that crosses through more than a dozen Kentucky counties as it hooks to an existing line near Hardinsburg running to the Gulf Coast.
