• Farmer closer to dream of returning to work

    Dairy farmer Gary Rock said a fundraiser to assist him with medical bills was “a gift beyond belief.”
    Rock, who lost his legs in a farming accident Aug. 26, requested the total amount raised not be published.
    “I prefer it be told ‘word of mouth,’” he said.

    Fraudulent letter directed to producers

    USDA has been made aware that there is a fraudulent letter circulating to producers and contractors. The signature line in these letters reads “Frank Rutenberg” and the sender claims to be a USDA employee seeking information about the recipient. These letters are a fraud, the sender is fictitious and recipients should not respond to these letters. Should you receive one of these fraudulent letters, notify the Farm Service Agency or a USDA Service Center representative.

    The Kentucky Department of Agriculture has an excellent hay and haylage testing program for LaRue County farmers. 

    A toll free call to the KDA Forage Testing Program (1-800-248-4628) will get a trained individual to come to the farm, take samples of your hay/haylage and get the test results back in a short period of time.

    Beef producers meet Nov. 12
    The LaRue County Beef Producers will meet 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the LaRue County Extension office. The educational speaker will be Judge Derek Reed who will discuss fencing laws.  A meal will be served. All interested individuals are invited to attend.

  • PHOTOS: Beef Producers donate to worthy cause

    LaRue County Beef Producers were busy preparing a meal to benefit Gary Rock on Nov. 2 at Sportsman’s Lake. Gary was injured in a farming accident in late August. The beef producers donated and served about 400 meals.

  • Hornback honored for photography

     Amateur photographers from across the region participated in the first annual Farm Foto Assignment photography contest held at the National FFA Convention, Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, in Louisville.

    Felicia Hornback, a student at LaRue County High School, was selected as the grand prize winner of the inaugural contest, presented by McDonald’s Restaurants of Kentuckiana. 

    Hornback won $1,000 for her FFA chapter. Her winning photo, “Country Life,” captures a farm landscape during sunset.
