  • Sheep and Goat Development Office funded

     The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board, chaired by Gov. Steve Beshear, approved the Kentucky Sheep and Goat Development Office for $40,000 in state Agricultural Development Funds to continue the services provided by the office to sheep and goat producers.

  • Sierra Enlow wins discussion meet

    Sierra Enlow of LaRue County won first place in the final round of Kentucky Farm Bureau Discussion Meet, a debate-styled competition for young farmers that relies on an individual’s skill in reasoning and logical discussion of issues. The event was one of the highlighted activities of the weekend’s general session during KFB’s annual meeting in Louisville.

  • KFW proposes 900 elk permits be issued

    The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission at its quarterly meeting Dec. 2 proposed issuing 900 quota hunt elk permits for the 2012-2013 elk seasons. Commission members also voted to modify some deer, small game and furbearer regulations.
    The commission recommends all hunting, fishing and boating regulations for approval by the General Assembly and approves all expenditures by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. All recommendations must be approved by legislators before they become law.

    4-H candy sale
    The 4-H Candy Sale fundraiser will run through Dec. 14.  Members are encouraged to participate in the sale which serves as the main fundraiser for 4-H.  Members are selling candy bars for $1 each.  Prizes are available for sellers, depending on the number of cases sold.  For more information, contact 4-H Agent Misty Wilmoth at 358-3401.

    Beef Cattle Association to meet
    The LaRue County Beef Cattle Association will meet 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the LaRue County Extension Office, 807 Old Elizabethtown Road, Hodgenville. Dave Maples, executive vice president of the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association will be the guest speaker. Reservations are requested by Dec. 10 by calling the Extension Office at 358-3401.
