    Private Pesticide Applicator Training

    The Hardin County Extension Office will conduct Private Pesticide Applicator Training on Friday, February 26 at their office located at 201 Peterson Drive in Elizabethtown.  Two sessions will be offered, one at 10:00 a.m. and one at 2:00 p.m. Call 270-765-4121 for more information.

    4-H Cooking Club

    The 4-H Cooking Club will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 18 at the LaRue County Extension Office.

    4-H Communications Contest

    The 4-H Communications Contest deadline is Friday, February 19 at 4:30 p.m..  Please make sure entries including poems are turned in to the Extension Office by that time.

    4-H Dog Club

    The 4-H Dog Club will meet at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 20 at the LaRue County Extension Office.

  • 4-H Shooting Sports Club Elects Officers

    The Shooting Sports Club held their annual chili supper cook-off and meeting on February 11th. 

    Tony Warner won the bragging rights for having the best chili this year. 

    Officers were also elected at the meeting.  The following were elected: President, Mason Lane; Vice President, Amaris Lane; Secretary, Tommy Wilmoth and Treasurer, Ephraim Morgan

    Educational programs of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service serve all people regardless of race, color, age, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.

  • Cattleman’s Chili Cook-off

    The LaRue County Cattlemen’s Association held its second annual Chili Cook-Off contest at its February 9 meeting.  There were two awards given at the event, the Judges’ Choice Award and the Peoples’ Choice Award.

    First Place of the Judges’ Choice Award went to Autumn Bailey, second place went to Robbie Ward and Third place went to Ruby Garrison.  First Place of the Peoples’ Choice Award went to Autumn Bailey, second place went to Randy Ward and Third place went to Phyllis Gentry.

  • Establishing a good landlord/tenant relationships

    With falling commodity prices the last few years, things have been crazy in the world of farmland rental. Questions have begun coming into the office about farm leases. How much should I be getting for my farm? Is it right for my tenant to want to lower my lease payments? What about crop share or Flex Leases? The list goes on and on. With all of the discussion about farm leases, I think now is a good time to look back at the basics of farm leasing.

  • LaRue Co Farm Bureau celebrates Food Check-Out Week

    The cost of food in America remains affordable. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service, American consumers spend, on average just over ten percent of their disposable income for food. Kentucky Farm Bureau President Mark Haney said that means the average household will have earned enough disposable income, the portion of income available for spending or saving, to pay for its annual food supply in about seven weeks.
