Prior to harvest take the following steps: Clean all equipment and storage bins thoroughly to remove old grain, trash and debris that might contaminate the new crop. Remove spilled grain around pits/hoppers and storage bins to prevent contamination. Treat bin walls and flooring with an approved residual insecticide such as Tempo and Reldan. Treat the outside base of all bins with an approved residual insecticide. Mow, spray or remove weeds/grass/vegetation around storage bins.

Aaron Thomas Shawler Wheeler, a 2010 graduate of LaRue County High School and member of the LaRue County FFA Chapter, was named the State FFA Outdoor Recreation-Entrepreneurship/Placement Proficiency award winner and received a $250 check at the State FFA convention. He will advance to compete for national honors.
Each state winner will be judged at the national contest and rated gold, silver or bronze. Four national finalists will be chosen with each receiving a $500 award and plaque.

Due to Kentucky’s weather creating delays in planting, the Kentucky Farm Service Agency is extending the 2011 date to report prevented planting for all crops except small grains to July 15, to coincide with the crop reporting deadline. Normally, producers are required to file this notification on prevented planting with their FSA office within 15 days of the respective crop’s final planting date.

July 15 - Final date to report acreage on all other crops and land uses, except small grains, including CRP acreage. Production reporting deadline for NAP crops for previous year’s production except small grains. Exception: Crops insured through NAP must report the earlier of: 15 calendar days before the onset of harvest or grazing, or July 15.
 July 29 - Final date to apply for 2009 Supplement Revenue Assistance Program (SURE).
