  • Use caution when burning, wildfire season is upon us

Shorter days and cooler nights are sure signs that autumn has arrived, and so has the fall wildfire hazard season that runs through Dec. 15. During the wildfire hazard season outdoor burning is prohibited from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in or within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland.

  • Calculate winter hay supply, storage needs

With the majority of this year’s hay made, now is the time for LaRue County livestock producers to determine if they have enough hay to get through the winter. Determining this is not difficult. Here’s how to get a fairly accurate estimate.

    1. Estimate the number of days you’ll feed hay this winter. In a normal year, Kentucky producers average 120 days (from Dec. 1 until March 31) of feeding hay. This will vary depending upon your situation.
