  • Form 1099 will change for farmers

    Calendar year 2012 brings several changes to the way FSA reports a producer’s farm program payments to the producer and to IRS.
    In past years, IRS Forms 1099-G would be issued to show all program payments received from the Farm Service Agency, regardless of the amount.

  • Conner, Flanders elected as American Angus delegates

     Kenley E. Conner of Hodgenville, has been elected as a delegate to the 129th Annual American Angus Association Convention of Delegates, Nov. 12 in Louisville.

    Conner, a member of the American Angus Association with headquarters in Saint Joseph, Mo., is one of 330 Angus breeders who have been elected by fellow members in their state to serve as a representative at the annual meeting. 

    Kelly Flanders of Buffalo has been elected as an alternate delegate to the convention.

  • CAIP applications available Sept. 12-28

     The 2012 LaRue County Agricultural Investment Program (CAIP) has been funded for $135,000.

    This is the fourth year LaRue County CAIP has been offered by the Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy and the County Agricultural Development Council.  The program applicant is the LaRue County Beef Cattle Association. The grant administrator is Dyan Puckett (270-537-3889).

    Grant guidelines and grant applications will be available at the Extension Office Sept. 12-28. The deadline for returning grant applications is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28.

     Livestock Club meets

    The 4-H Livestock Club will meet 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at the LaRue County Extension Office. Any LaRue County youth ages 9 to 18 interested in livestock or wishing to show livestock in 2012-13 are encouraged to attend.

  • 4-H Rabbit Club competes at Kentucky State Fair

     The LaRue County 4-H Rabbit Club members participated in the State 4-H Rabbit Show at the Kentucky State Fair on Aug. 17.

  • CRP grazing deadline extended

     A two-month extension for emergency grazing on Conservation Reserve Program acres is being offered.

    This flexibility for ranchers marks the latest action by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide assistance to producers impacted by the drought, which has included opening CRP and other conservation acres to emergency haying and grazing, lowering the interest rate for emergency loans, and working with crop insurance companies to provide flexibility to farmers.

  • Tree seedlings available through Division of Forestry

     With fall just around the corner, state foresters are encouraging Kentuckians to plan their tree-planting activities now by ordering tree seedlings through the Kentucky Division of Forestry.
