4-H members are encouraged to submit their record books by Friday, Oct. 14.  Record books will be judged and the winning junior division record books will advance to the district competition.  
Awards for all record book participants and winners will be presented at the annual 4-H awards banquet on Dec. 5 at the Extension Office.
Also, all record book participants were invited to attend the achievement trip to Mammoth Cave.  

Kelly Flanders of Buffalo tied for 10th largest in registering the most Angus beef cattle in Kentucky having recorded 96 head of Angus with the American Angus Association during fiscal year 2011, which ended Sept. 30, according to Bryce Schumann, CEO of the American Angus Association.
Angus breeders across the nation in 2011 registered 294,975 head of Angus cattle.
The American Angus Association, headquartered in Saint Joseph, Mo. is the largest beef registry association in the world in terms of both annual registrations and active members.

Hay availability may be short this winter. Due to last year’s drought and this year’s early record rainfall and drought  — both hay quality and yield are down. The variability of yield, quality and number of cuttings indicate the hay supply could get tight.
To make the most of your hay quantity and quality, store hay inside a barn, where it will remain dry. Remember to store hay in barns that have access in all types of weather. If that is not feasible, cover with a tarp to protect it from the elements.

Local farmers, listen up. If you grow it, or maybe want to grow it, they will come. 'They' are food distributors that want and need more local food for their clients.

Louisville Farm to Table and Washington County Cooperative Extension are teaming up to put food distributors that need locally grown food in the same room as folks in the state that either are or are willing to consider growing it.

To set the table, a meal of locally grown food will be prepared for those attending the conference.
