Noninsured crop disaster assistance for
barley and popcorn
Barley and popcorn are no longer insurable through crop insurance for LaRue County. Producers are required to purchase noninsured crop disaster assistance insurance through Farm Service Agency to maintain eligibility for Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payment (SURE) purposes.
Contact the FSA office at 765-2702 before Sept. 30 for barley and March 15, 2012 for popcorn.

The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board, chaired by Gov. Steve Beshear, approved Tim and Wanda Quiggins for $25,000 in county Agricultural Development Funds to construct a multi-purpose facility for agricultural events.
These funds were contributed by the following counties: Barren ($10,000), Hart ($5,000) and LaRue ($10,000).

The 4-H year runs from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31. With the end of the 2010-11 4-H year, it’s now time for 4-H members to submit their 4-H Awards Point System Record Sheets.
Record Sheets are simply a record of the 4-H activities or events a particular member has participated in during the past year. Points are assigned for various events, depending on the level of participation.  
Cloverbuds are eligible to submit a record form as well in order to receive recognition. Cloverbuds are ages 5 to 8.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is advertising for 28 conservation officer recruit positions.
Applicants must create an account online through the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet website and apply to the posting.
The size of the recruit class depends on the vacancies at the time, said Capt. Myra Minton, acting assistant director of the Law Enforcement Division of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. By the time the department hires this class, it will be almost two years since the last hiring.
