 Grazing is the most cost-effective way for producers to feed ruminant animals. Each year, the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture hosts two installments of the Kentucky Grazing School to help producers become better managers of their grazing systems.

The first installment is 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. April 17-18 at the UK Research and Education Center in Princeton.

Past participants have included everyone from new farmers to experienced grazers, and all have received new information and practical skills to implement in their operations.

 We often hear a lot about managing storm water in urban settings, but we may not think about how it impacts farms. During a heavy rain event, clean rainwater can mix with mud, manure and other contaminants and become wastewater.

To manage storm water on your farm you have to divert rainwater from production areas to keep it clean and to reduce the volume of wastewater. To stay in compliance with the Clean Water Act, agricultural operations must manage wastewater in a way that creates no discharge to surface water resources.

 The LaRue County 4-H Shooting Sports Club would like to thank everyone who supported their recent chili cook-off and silent auction. All proceeds went to the 4-H Shooting Sports Club. 

The club is open to LaRue County youth ages 9 to 18, with no membership fee.

 Hardin County native Steve Gray has spent about 30 years of his career with the state Division of Forestry at the division office in Elizabethtown.

The office where he has spent so much of his time working has been open since 1949, helping with forest fire control, assisting with forest management, inspecting logging work for water quality violations, running educational programs in schools and conducting other work.
