 It is important to get vegetable seedlings and transplants off to a good start. There are a few early season insects that need to be managed to ensure plant establishment and healthy stands.  

 The 2013 Kentucky Farm Bureau “Farmer of the Year” application process is now open, and the organization is seeking the Commonwealth’s finest nominees for this prestigious award.

With opening day of the statewide season just three weeks away, Kentucky turkey hunters can look forward to encountering gobblers of all ages this spring.

“There will be a higher than average number of jakes (juvenile gobblers) compared to the 2-year-olds and older adult gobblers in our flocks,” said Steven Dobey, wild turkey program coordinator for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. “We should have another good spring season.”

Farmers market planning

A planning meeting for the 2013 LaRue County Farmers Market will be 5:30 p.m. April 18 at the LaRue County Extension Office. Past and potential vendors are encouraged to attend the meeting. A tentative opening date for the market has been set for May 3.

Bacon Creek Watershed Council to meet
