    CAIP Grant Applications

    Applications for the 2015 LaRue County Agricultural Investment Program (CAIP) are available at the LaRue County Cooperative Extension Service Office. Applications must be submitted by close of business on Wednesday, November 11. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Fall Forage Management Practices

    There are several things that LaRue County forage producers can do this fall that will help insure a better forage crop next spring, next year and for years to come. Let’s look at a few tips.

    Fall is also an excellent time to take samples for a soil test analysis (free to county residents) and crop fertility recommendations, especially if you’re going to seed clover or alfalfa. Having the soil test done now gives you time to apply recommended fertilizer and allows any needed lime to start reacting.

    The 4-H Arts & Crafts Explorers Club will meet at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28 at the LaRue County Extension Office.

    4-H Cooking Club

    The 4-H Cooking Club will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 29 at the LaRue County Extension Office.

    4-H Wranglers Horse Club

    The 4-H Wranglers Horse Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3 at the LaRue County Extension Office.

    LaRue County Young Farmers

        The LaRue County Young Farmers are looking for new members! The first meeting of the year will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, November 12 in the Community Center at Hodgenville Park. There will be a light meal, and a brief educational presentation followed by basketball.   • LaRue County Young Farmers seek new members

     The first meeting of the year for the LaRue County Young Farmers will be held at 7:30 p.m., November 12 at the Community Center at Hodgenville Park. There will be a light meal and a brief educational presentation followed by basketball. The Young Farmers meetings are geared towards young farmers and young agribusiness professionals, but they are open to anyone with an interest in agriculture.     The 2015 LaRue County Agricultural Investment Program (CAIP) has been funded for $110,000. This is the seventh year LaRue County CAIP has been offered by the Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy (GOAP) and the County Agricultural Development Council.

  • Buffalo man ranked in top ten Angus registrations

    Kelly Flanders has been ranked in the top ten of the most Angus beef cattle registered in Kentucky.

    Kelly Flanders of Buffalo ranked as the ninth largest in registering the most Angus beef cattle in Kentucky with the American Angus Association during fiscal year 2015, which ended September 30 according to Richard Wilson, Association interim chief executive officer.

    Angus breeders across the nation in 2015 registered 320,362 head of Angus cattle.
