    Are you certain that your planter is ready to go this spring? Planter issues account for the majority of uneven emergence in corn. Studies have shown that you can have a 5-6 percent yield loss because corn plants don’t emerge uniformly. And that’s yield loss that is gone from the get-go. Before the seed has even germinated.

  • Kentucky 4-H Volunteer Forum

    LaRue County 4-H Volunteers recently attended the Kentucky 4-H Volunteer Forum held in Lexington.  The event included workshops as well as two recognition events. Workshops were offered on a variety of subjects in order to help volunteers bring back new ideas and programs to their county.  Livestock and horse volunteer earned hours toward their required recertification.

  • Zika Virus, what you need to know

    There has been a lot of discussion about the Zika Virus lately, after several cases have occurred in the United States; however, health officials and entomologists state Kentuckians face little risk. The aedes aegypti mosquito, which spreads the Zika virus, has not been found in Kentucky.

  • Local farmer donates to library’s homeschool program

    Friends of the LaRue County Public Library has received a $2,500 donation from America’s Farmers Grow Communities, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund and directed by local farmers Dennis and Janet Cruse of LaRue County.

    The Friends will use this donation to support the LaRue County Public Library’s Homeschool Program. The Homeschool Program is the first and third Wednesday of each month at 11 a.m. This semester the kids are learning about music. The money will help purchase books, program supplies and possible presenters.

    The Hardin County Extension Office will conduct Private Pesticide Applicator Training on Friday, February 26 at their office located at 201 Peterson Drive in Elizabethtown.  Two sessions will be offered, one at 10:00 a.m. and one at 2:00 p.m. Call 270-765-4121 for more information.

    4-H Cooking Club

    The 4-H Cooking Club will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 18 at the LaRue County Extension Office.

    4-H Communications Contest

    The 4-H Communications Contest deadline is Friday, February 19 at 4:30 p.m..  Please make sure entries including poems are turned in to the Extension Office by that time.

    4-H Dog Club

    The 4-H Dog Club will meet at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 20 at the LaRue County Extension Office.

  • 4-H Shooting Sports Club Elects Officers

    The Shooting Sports Club held their annual chili supper cook-off and meeting on February 11th. 

    Tony Warner won the bragging rights for having the best chili this year. 

    Officers were also elected at the meeting.  The following were elected: President, Mason Lane; Vice President, Amaris Lane; Secretary, Tommy Wilmoth and Treasurer, Ephraim Morgan
