  • SRAP program for crop loss deadlines July 29

    Farmer and ranchers applying for assistance for 2009 crop losses under the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments program have until July 29 to submit an application.

  • Deadline for 4-H Fair projects is Monday

    The LaRue County Fair is an excellent opportunity for youth to showcase their talents. Numerous 4-H classes are offered. Categories include arts and crafts, photography, foods, houseplants, vegetables, crops, electric, woodworking, entomology, honey, forestry, geology, sewing, knitting, crocheting, breads, dairy foods, food preservation and home environment.  
    A complete list of 4-H classes is included in the fair catalog. Stop by the Extension Office if you need a copy of the catalog or if you have questions about entry requirements.  

  • It’s LaRue County Fair time - livestock events

    LaRue County Fair livestock entries are generally open to the world, but must meet several requirements including exhibition health requirements with a health certificate and ownership by certain date. Some livestock show classes require an entry fee, some do not.
    Livestock exhibition actually begins Friday, July 22 with the walking horse show. Saturday is the saddlebred horse show. Other horse shows are a youth academy and open fun show, miniature horse show and mule show on July 27, 29 and 30 respectively.

  • County Committee Elections

    Aug. 1 – Last day to file nomination forms for county committee. Forms are available at the Hardin/LaRue FSA office or www.fsa.usda.gov.
    Nov. 4 – Ballots mailed to eligible voters
    Dec. 5 – Last day to return voted ballots to FSA office
    Jan. 2 – Elected committee members and alternates take office

    The Hardin/LaRue FSA office is located on Lincoln Parkway.

    State Fair entry
    deadlines
    The Kentucky State Fair will be Aug. 18-28, but entry deadlines are as follows: Open livestock entries must be postmarked by July 10. Open Show livestock may enter after July 10 by paying a double entry fee, but no open livestock entries will be accepted after July 25. Rabbit entries must be postmarked by July 18. Most entries can be made at www.kystatefair.org.

  • 4-H Calendar: Updated 07/12

    Dog Club meets for practice
    The 4-H Dog Club will meet 10-11:30 a.m. July 16 at the Extension Office. Bring your dog on a leash. This is practice before the show to be held the following Saturday.
     
    Shooting Sports
    The LaRue County 4-H Shooting Sports Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. July 21 at the New Haven Gun Club.

  • Asian Longhorned Beetle Found in Ohio

    A new and potentially serious threat to some of North America’s most beautiful trees was recently detected in the southwestern town of Bethel, Ohio, across the Ohio River from Campbell County, Kentucky.  The invasive insect known as the Asian Longhorned Beetle is among a growing number of exotic, invasive pests to threaten the nation’s forests. The beetle can significantly damage both rural and urban forests, but so far, has had the greatest impact in urban areas.

  • It’s county fair week - enter your crop exhibits

    The 2011 LaRue County Fair will be July 22-30 and LaRue county residents are encouraged to enter crop and livestock exhibits. Agriculture remains a strong part of our 104th LaRue County Community Fair.
    Let’s look this week at crop exhibits.  Specific details for all the exhibits and events can be reviewed in the last week‘s 2011 LaRue County Fair and Livestock Expo supplement in The LaRue County Herald News.  It can help you meet the rules and regulations for these and other County Fair events.
