    The 4-H Shooting Sports Club will hold a safety meeting 6:30 p.m. March 19 at the Extension office, 807 Old Elizabethtown Road, Hodgenville.

    The 4-H Arts & Crafts Explorers Club will meet 3:30-5:00 p.m. March 25 at the Extension office.

     Goat and Sheep Producers meet

    LaRue County Goat and Sheep Producers will meet 6:30 p.m. March 12 at the LaRue County Extension office. Dr. Beth Johnson, DVM, will discuss health regulations and common diseases seen in small ruminants in Kentucky. Extension Expo, which will be March 21 at the high school, will also be discussed. A meal will be provided. Anyone interested in goat or sheep production is invited to attend.

  • Students celebrate FFA Week

     The week of George Washington’s Birthday, Feb 23-28, is designated as National FFA Week. Our local FFA Chapter celebrated this event with dress up days, chapter trivia, and scheduled events for members and for the community. 

    On Monday, members participated in “Muck boot Monday.” After school, the Chapter took 28 kids and advisors, Misty Bivens and Chris Thomas, to volunteer at Feeding America: Kentucky’s Heartland. Members were then treated to dinner at Mr. Gatti’s.

    There were several discussions of interest at last week’s Kentucky Alfalfa Conference.  One of the topics was “What is quality hay?” Let’s look at some of the categories than constitute hay quality.

  • Nuisance deer can be used to feed the hungry

    Deer. To some, they are beautiful animals. To out-of-state sportsmen, Kentucky Whitetails are the stuff of which dreams are made. To farmers here in the Commonwealth, though, they are often a nuisance or worse, gobbling their way through soybean fields at a rapid and alarming rate.
