From left, Carolyn Milby, Vanessa Burt, and Pat Vance examine a painting of Mount Zion Church and cemetery done by a church member Janice Edwards. Vance is going to donate the painting to the church at its 200th anniversary celebration May 4.

Abraham Lincoln was a 5-year-old boy playing on a farm a few miles to the northwest when Mount Zion Separate Baptist Church was constituted in 1814.   James Madison was president of the country and the Battle of New Orleans was still almost a year into the future.
The land on which the church was built, at the northern edge of what is now Hart County (formed in 1819), was at that time part of Hardin County as was LaRue (1843).
