  • Lice check

    All 4-H campers are required to have a lice check conducted before attending camp. The head check will take place 10:30 a.m.-noon  June 28 at the LaRue County Extension Service office, Old E’town Road, Hodgenville.  Parents should bring camper’s medications and $2 for girl campers for the crafts class at this time. If you have questions, contact the Extension Service at 358-3401.

    During the growing season, the Extension Office will show DVD segments demonstrating how-to techniques on home canning and freezing during farmers market hours. June 25 and 29 will show segment on canning vegetables like green beans. Drop in any time between 2 and 5:30 p.m. or call Abby Tate at 358-3401 if you want to view the DVD at other times.

  • Last week’s column covered some general aspects of mosquitoes, their development and general controls, especially larval control. Let’s review some practical, fairly simple, non-pesticide, environmentally friendly ways to reduce mosquito populations. Following the steps below will keep your property from becoming a prime mosquito breeding ground:

    • Since used tires are a primary mosquito breeding area, remove all discarded tires.

    4-H Campers will be leaving for camp Tuesday, June 29. Campers should arrive at the Nationwide Uniform Parking lot on Old E'town Road by 7:45 a.m. For more information, call 358-3401.

    4-H Campers are expected to return from camp by 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 2. All campers must be signed out before being released to a parent or approved pick-up person.

  • The Louisville Office of Employment and Training in conjunction with The Higher Income Requires Education Forum is sponsoring a Job Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 24 at Jefferson Community & Technical College, 109 E. Broadway, Louisville.

    The fair is free to both employers and job seekers and is open to the public. Interested employers may contact mary.keltee@ky.gov.
