  • America’s strength – where is it to be found?

    The answer is given in scripture. “Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34) Righteousness is a moral uprightness and social justice. “Reproach” means “to bend low” in shame, in disgrace or in ultimate downfall.

  • Jared Whitlock, a recent graduate of LaRue County High School, is the recipient of a $2,500 scholarship awarded by the National FFA Organization. The scholarship is sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales, USA Inc.

    Whitlock plans to attend Western Kentucky University and major in agriculture engineering.

    He has been active in FFA and wrestling during high school.

    He is the son of Ronald and Stephanie Whitlock.
     

  • Delinda Thompson has been selected as the May Employee of the Month for Nationwide Uniform.

    She has been employed with Nationwide since July 1996 and is under the supervision of JoAnn Pearman in the trouser department.

    She will receive an award for her dedication and service.
     

  • John and Gail Gozzard of Hodgenville celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2013.

    They were married June 26, 1953, at the home of the groom’s grandfather in Warren, Ohio.

    They have five children: John E. Gozzard Jr. of Glendale, Randy Gozzard of Florida, Dianna Moder of Minnesota, and D.J. Canter and Kevin Gozzard, both of Hodgenville; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

  • Glorietta Fun Fest
    The First Baptist Church, 107 Bishop Lane, Elizabethtown, will have a Glorietta Fun Fest 10 a.m.-7 p.m. July 13. Booth space is available for $25. Deadline for vendors is June 17.

    Upton Masonic Lodge #749 will have a breakfast fundraiser 8-11 a.m. July 13 (and on the second Saturday of every month). Cost is $5 per person.

  • Food pantry at Church of Christ
    The food pantry at LaRue County Church of Christ will give food to families who qualify 6-7 p.m. June 26 and 9:30-noon June 28. For more information, call 358-9812.

    Revival at Poplar Grove

  • We are impressed by size, and most seem to think if it is big and noisy, it must be important.

    But we find in the Scriptures, that God many times uses small things to teach big lessons.

    In Zechariah 4:10 the question is asked, “For who has despised the day of small things?” The prophet is seeking to encourage the people during a difficult time as they rebuild the temple.

    Be careful not to despise small things. We started as a small baby; God sent a baby to lead his people out of bondage; a baby was sent by God to deliver us from our sin.

  •  The American Lung Association’s Golf Tour Book includes discounts on more than 5,000 rounds of golf at over 300 fine courses in Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Ohio.

  •  Average retail gasoline prices in Kentucky have fallen 10.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.46 per gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 2,623 gas outlets in Kentucky. This compares with the national average that has fallen 3.8 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.57 per gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
