  • Marriage Conference
    Parkway Baptist Church, 325 Old Sonora Road, Hodgenville, is hosting a marriage conference simulcast “Sex, Love, and Communication” by Jimmy and Karen Evans on Aug. 9. Doors open at 7 p.m. with simulcast at 8 p.m. It continues 9 a.m. Aug. 10. The cost is $25 per couple. Refreshments will be served.

  • Car and Bike Show at Wesley Meadows
    The Sweet Chariot Car and Bike Show will be hosted by Wesley Meadows United Methodist Church, at 4341 Campbellsville Road, on Aug. 10. Registration is at 10 a.m. There is a $10 entry fee.   • In the university of life, some courses are required of us.  Some we may choose, but others are required.

    Life itself is a required course in which we have no say. We did not choose to be born, but now that we are here, we can do nothing about it. We have to live. There is no escaping. You cannot destroy yourself. Life does not end at death. The story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16 proves this. You had a beginning, but there is no ending. You must exist somewhere from now on.

  • Josh and Lauren Ragland of Magnolia are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Joshua Evan Ragland.

    He was born June 12, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He weighed 7 pounds and 15 ounces and was 21 inches long.

    Grandparents are David and Debbie Ragland of Hodgenville; and Kent and Lynne Simpson of Georgia.

  • E.S. Ferrill shared this information about his grandfather, William Ferrill. (The story was found on a genealogical website.)

    William Ferrill came to LaRue County (then Kentucky County, Virginia), from Culpepper, Va., in 1788. He came when a very small child with his mother, a young widow.

    His mother’s brothers, John and James Howell, accompanied them on horseback.
